Those who visited the Theme Park Hotel years ago before the renovations commenced at Resorts World Genting will find it utterly unrecognisable now as the newly refurbished Theme Park Hotel. If you ride the new Awana Skyway cable car to the top, you may notice the hotel logo from a distance giving a hint of the unique and whimsical façade inside. The hotel is conveniently located right next to the 20th Century Fox Theme Park World (currently under construction) and is a short walk to the SkyAvenue mall and the Arena of Stars.
Upon entering the lobby, those who are expecting to find a typical foyer with a tinkling fountain will instead feel like Alice in Wonderland as they encounter a stack of giant teacups. In place of plush armchairs is a humongous chair that is great for photos. A trick mirror inclines on the wall at the waiting area with a food and beverage kiosk ‘Eatopia’ alongside offering a variety of food and snacks including sushi, sandwiches, pastry and even nasi lemak.
On the way to the room from the lift, visitors will notice a welcome sight bathed in purple light (like the rest of the hallway): vending machines. Those who find hotel mini bars and room service unreasonably expensive will appreciate this handy alternative for a midnight snack. As if the lobby isn’t fascinating and extraordinary enough, guests will feel as if they are on adventure to find their room in the mysteriously-lit hallways.
Once visitors enter the hotel room, they will be momentarily befuddled by the doodles throughout the room. The main charm of the room is that hand drawings are in place of the furniture and items, minimizing the clutter and giving it a quirky and playful vibe leaving more space and room for more guests. If a room for six is not enough for you, there is a door to the adjacent room for easy access. The rooms offer a striking view of the upcoming theme park or a picturesque sight of the natural landscape of Genting Highlands. When the it’s time for those much needed forty winks, personalised drawings on the chalkboard-like blinds brighten up the room when they are lowered.
Everything from the ‘Do Not Disturb’ signs to the safe deposit box and toiletries are personalised with a special touch. A variety of toiletries are generously supplied for multiple guests to use including a razor and toothbrushes.
There are fluffy bedroom slippers for each guest ranging from large, medium and for child. Another cool feature is the modern rotary dial cordless phone that will make ringing up Housekeeping fun. There is also a price list available for those who wish to take souvenirs home from the hotel room.
There are three spacious queen sized beds for the Sixers room with one of them being a bunk bed which will make children look forward to bedtime while the adults will enjoy sinking into the snug mattress.
There is even a special room with an electronically adjustable bed for more senior or infirm guests.
The switches for the lights and fans are right next to the bed and heavy smart phone users will appreciate the USB charging ports too. There is also of course, free Wi-Fi available.
The bathroom and shower are separated to reduce the fuss that usually occurs during bath time. There are also two sinks with a hairdryer.
Parents will have a hard time dragging their kids away from the hotel when it’s time to go home, while adults will enjoy a fresh change from the usually stuffy and dull interiors of other hotels.
